The Spanish Royal Palace
Madrid is home to the largest Royal Palace in Europe (by area). You should definitely allow several hours to stroll & marvel at its variety of rooms & gardens, and enjoy the stunning views over the city. Near the Royal Palace, you will also find Almudena Cathedral, all neoclassical magnificence.

Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor
To experience the vibrant atmosphere and spirit of Madrid, head for the Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor. Located at the heart of the city, these two huge squares just simply bustle with life and activity.

Gran Vía and Malasaña & Chueca
No visit to Madrid would be complete without a stroll along the Gran Vía: Lined with theatres, shops, and stunning modern architecture, this truly grand avenue makes for a fabulous afternoon out.

And, if you have the time, you should also check out the neighbourhoods of Malasaña & Chueca: Filled with unique bars and shops, here you will find vibrant nightlife and great street art.

Retiro Park & Madrid Río
After all this excitement, you may be looking for somehwere a little more quiet and relaxing. No better place for that than one of Madrid's wonderful parks! There is Retiro Park - simply huge, with lots of things going on, Madrid Río, a seriously picturesque area along the river Manzanares, and the Casa de Campo, where you can find nature trails and lovely views of the city.
