Spend the weekend getting out into nature: Leave the hustle & bustle behind and relax & revive your spirit with some natural beauty. Missouri's forests are absolutely stunning in their fiery fall colors, and there is some truly amazing, comfortable hiking & biking in the north of Springfield, just waiting to be explored. What's more, this area is also home to some totally stunning limestone caves!
Lost Hill Park is a great place to start your explorations: 131 acres of forest and prairie, caves, bluffs & arches along the South Dry Sac River. Follow the Fulbright Spring Greenway through David C Murray Park.and you'll end up at Ritter Springs, with its wooded, tranquil lake. Just a little way up the road from here, you'll find the famous Fantastic Caverns, a breathtaking cave system so huge, you ride through it on a tram! A wonderful rest for tired feet and an amazing opportunity to see something really unique.
On another day, it's well worth going up to Fellows Lake: Awesome trails & scenic lake views await! And just a little way up from here again is the lovely Crystal Cave, a true fairytale land underground. If you have the time, we also recommend making your way down to the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, which offers a lovely variety of scenery & walking trails.
