Every year between the end of January & mid-February*, artists gather to create sculptures carved from ice. These incredible masterpieces are as beautiful as they are transient - an unforgettable sight! The most intricate carvings are displayed in the Crystal Garden (Confederation Park). Sparks Street & ByWard Market also display a multitude a smaller carvings. Tip: While you're there, you must try a Beaver's Tail! (a fried-dough pastry, topped with cinnamon & sugar :))

Ottawa simply turns into a winter wonderland: There is ice skating on the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal where you can whizz along for almost 5 miles - right through downtown Ottawa! At Gatineau Park, a giant winter playground comes into being complete with Located in Gatineau, this site is a giant winter playground. It features massive snow slides, tube sliding, and an illuminated Ferris wheel. Travel between Ottawa and Gatineau on the Winterlude Sno-Bus is free.
